Carey joined the band back in the mid 70's while in high school when the band decided to go from a one-time fun show to a professional group. From there he moved to Minneapolis and split his time between doing dinner shows and the progressive rock group "North". Wanting more he moved to San Francisco to study and become a recording engineer at Sonic Arts Studios along with being a session musician and singer. After returning to La Crosse he helped start the successful bands The River City Rockers and the original Headliners. Working a short time playing out of Austin, Texas, he went on to the University of Central Florida to study Communication Studies, Public Affairs, and Bioinformatics. His day gig is teaching at Viterbo University in the School of Management and Leadership.
